I'd personally consider this the ideal full-body reference sheet for Cree - minus all the stuff that would actually make this a reference sheet for your version of her sona design.

I'm most impressed with the shading and lighting; the latter particularly makes Cree's color scheme look less flat, subsequently emphasizing that she's not your average human - if the eyes and futuristic vibes didn't already give that away.

I also like that her heels are dark green. While black or cyan is an obvious choice for their color at first glance, them being dark green - in my interpretation - is some subtle attention to detail that refers to Cree being your wife.

precisely
and the original design was still kind of complicated if not counting those lines on her body

There's not much I could realistically critique here; it's nice to see the funny one-eyed skrunkly in color now!

Although, I wonder where his boots went?

MidTierArtist responds:

gone

This is like looking at a family photo, albeit all the family members are versions of the same person. Wonder if there's a term for that?

I like that each counterpart has a distinct quirk in their appearance and artstyle; one has soft shading, one's drawn in flatcolor, another has scribbly-esque lineart, etc.

The background, while hard to see, also adds some good attention to detail in that it appears to be an actual photo of some outdoors location; given that the average family photo tends to be taken outside.

Although I won't lie, the variant in the center of the picture with the semi-bird's eye view perspective makes the composition a tad off-putting at a closer glance; it particularly makes her look like she's floating when everyone else doesn't appear to be - maybe with the one exception of the variant on the top-left corner of the canvas.

The one in the middle is supposed to be like that a high pov if that makes sense

Holy shit, this needs to be frontpaged ASAP.

There's so much good stuff that I can talk about here, but if I started infodumping, we'd be here all day. So I'll try to streamline the explanations of what I like most about this piece.

For starters, the visual detailing and composition is OFF THE CHARTS. Much like what I described when I reviewed the Akuma art, this looks like a mock-up for an advertisement readers would find in an old comic book, right down to the brand/company logos being seen in the bottom of the canvas.

Secondly, the background; I love it. The shredded appearace of it goes well with Wolverine unleashing his claws towards the camera, and the monocolor visage of all the other playable characters in Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 breathes a lot of life into the whole thing.

Lastly, both Wolverine himself and Ryu look fucking amazing! Ryu being shown in the reflection of Wolverine's claws is such a cool way to visualize their duel, and their respective poses are awesome to look at!

I know this is just a small request but please make more art like this! I'd stare and admire it all day.

BaasNG responds:

i love you

"The Vivians are multiplying."

I adore thd game-accurate Vivians on the right side of the canvas; they're cute and whimsy, especially the bottom-right one holding a trans pride flag.

I won't lie, I don't have much to say on the stylized Vivian in the center of the frame. I've seen a lot of Vivian art with an identical appearance to that stylized version, but then again, Vivian's design is quite simple so there's not a whole lot the average artist could really do with it.

thank you namu this took so long to draw for no reason lol 🙏

I can't help but get Jojo's Bizarre Adventure vibes from this design - might be an intentional motif, but I'm not certain on that. I will say tho, I'm likin' the presentation, as cluttered as it is. All three poses for Degeneratesin are pretty good and showcase your ability to switch from a cartoonish artstyle, to something that's photorealistic to an extent.

Additionally, I'm noticing this as I'm writing rn, but the black-and-neon magenta checker pattern on Degeneratesin's undershirt reminds me of the missing texture thing that can occur in Gmod or Source Film Maker. But for such a name as "Degeneratesin," it's funnily ironic how the chest of this version is rather small compared to the legs. If that's also intentional, I like it; serves as a neat juxtaposition to what the average viewer would expect from an artpiece titled "female degeneratesin."

And now that I'm looking more closely, the hair goes hard, tbh. The way it blends into her head reminds me of how Jotaro's hair seemingly blends into his signature hat. Her color scheme's also great, imo. Plus, the orange tie's a perfect contrast to her purplish-blue skin, and her little grin on the right side of the canvas is cool as well.

(Gah, this review's looking quite scatterbrained rn, but I'm sure you can tell that I really enjoy this art.)

NoNthings responds:

You explained it in the best way possible and yeah I based the design off of Kira from jojo

Tbh, there ain't much I could really comment about this, with one particular exception: Yerself's open grin is *perfect.* Love that he stares into the camera, too.

And much like the "My Treat In Beatings" picture, this here's another instance of where a small background detail would've given a neat touch of pizazz to the whole illustration. (Maybe even some bits of dialouge, too? Assuming Yerself can speak.)

MidTierArtist responds:

im not paid enough lad
and Yerself is preferred being quiet

I like his name. Prolly unintentional, but it could also reference the Spy's Your Eternal Reward knife, 'cus of the "Yer" part.

As for the design itself.. while decent, but I feel it's rather bland. I think if the clothes were tattered and had several splotches of blood on them - or even had the crowbar be bloodstained / rusty - it'd sell the premise of Yerself more effectively. The only way the average viewer would tell that he's gone mad from being dumped is from his expression alone.

Not saying that said expression is bad. It's great, but I feel that it is doing all the heavy lifting in regards to giving this guy any distinct visual qualities, beyond just wearing his signature clothing differently, and wielding a color-coded crowbar.

MidTierArtist responds:

this is just a fucking wip
bugger

I love how this replicates the Super Paper Mario artstyle flawlessly, while hints of your artstyle still shine through - particularly with the shading.

I have this feeling that Paper Mario's pose is supposed to reference something, but I'm not sure what said reference is, exactly.

I also adore how all the game's antagonists - minus Mr. L - are in the background. Feels like I'm looking a single frame to the intro of an anime like Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.

You could probably edit this into a piece of fake boxart for Super Paper Mario and it'd go hard, imo.

NoNthings responds:

I actually drew mr. L but forgot to add him in lol

Eldritch artist on the spectrum. I make SFW and NSFW art; minors begone.
