I love how this is a perfect recreation of the DS artstyle for Mario & Luigi; it downright could've been what the box art could look like if Brothership was 2D instead of 3D like past titles in the series.

Between the two of these gals... I have a preference for vampires, so Terra's my immediate pick.
Hm, seeing the two of them together, I've noticed a similarity between Terra and Lydia: Their clothing references something related the consumption of food. It goes hand-in-hand with their chubby figures and gluttonous appetites, especially with that aforementioned clothing exposing their stomachs, too.
It sounds kinda on the nose when I point that out, but it's some good attention to detail.
(Terra and Lydia certainly make for a good pair. I wonder who would win in an eating competition.)
This. Is. In-CREDIBLE!
It's clear you possess some exceptional skills in the art of character design, because this is a 10-outta-10 at first sight; the look and feel of Vivian's new outfit and accompanying staff is unique whilst still encapsulating the bass fundamentals of the Mario aesthetic.
Vivian being rendered as a low-poly 3D character beautifully accentuates said aesthetic; it makes the design appear as if it were a proof-of-concept for a 3D Mario RPG made sometime after the success of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.
I wish Nintendo wasn't so strict about Mario fangames, because I would absolutely play a Mario fangame that looked like this and had Vivian as a playable character / party member.
As I scrolled down on this, my eyes instantly caught notice of an ADHD tag in the Credits & Info section. I feel obligated to say somethin' like "Hello fellow neurodivergent artist!" 'cus for me, it's a surprise to bump into other neurodivergent people online; and in regards to Aiden's explicit purpose as a character, it adds a lot of relatability to some of the mental health struggles she embodies.
With that mini-ramble aside, time for me to do some actual critiquing. Since ADHD's been mentioned, I'll start off with Aiden's name; I love it. It took me speaking her name outloud in my head to realize that her full name's a somewhat subtle corruption of the pronounciation for ADHD, which is some great attention to detail without being *too* on the nose about it. Without that context, I doubt most people would surmise what Aiden's full name is supposed to mean.
Now, as for her design, I like it as well. For a vent character, she doesn't come off as overwhelming edgy, which is apparently a common trend amongst these types of OCs; I'd say she'd look right at home in some location reminiscent of psychological horror games like Silent Hill 2 or In Sound Mind. I can imagine Aiden would likely be in need of a hug or some positive affirmations.
The only part of her design that confuses me a bit is the bloodstained slab of metal. The third image has me thinking its supposed to part of some torture device, while the first one makes it appear as a weapon that Aiden could use as a form of self-defense. If the latter is true, I think the metal slab having a makeshift handle on one side would make for a relatively decent sword design.
And that pretty much sums up my thoughts on this character. Overall, she's a good OC in my eyes; has a great name and a horror-esque design that doesn't fall on edgy OC tropes from back in the day when those were popular.
Thanks! And I appreciate the critique. As for the blade that's meant to be the blade of a guillotine. It's a cursed object that's a constant reminder of her pain. The blood on it is her blood. It's usually right at her neck like a guillotine is meant to be. But it can be removed though never truly gotten rid of.
But she does need it as if she doesn't for too long she goes feral. Think of the blade like the cap of a bottle. If it isn't there then everything could leak out. Much like someone who bottles up their emotions. She starts to act more animalistic when it's gone for too long.
This is like looking at a family photo, albeit all the family members are versions of the same person. Wonder if there's a term for that?
I like that each counterpart has a distinct quirk in their appearance and artstyle; one has soft shading, one's drawn in flatcolor, another has scribbly-esque lineart, etc.
The background, while hard to see, also adds some good attention to detail in that it appears to be an actual photo of some outdoors location; given that the average family photo tends to be taken outside.
Although I won't lie, the variant in the center of the picture with the semi-bird's eye view perspective makes the composition a tad off-putting at a closer glance; it particularly makes her look like she's floating when everyone else doesn't appear to be - maybe with the one exception of the variant on the top-left corner of the canvas.
The one in the middle is supposed to be like that a high pov if that makes sense
Holy shit, this needs to be frontpaged ASAP.
There's so much good stuff that I can talk about here, but if I started infodumping, we'd be here all day. So I'll try to streamline the explanations of what I like most about this piece.
For starters, the visual detailing and composition is OFF THE CHARTS. Much like what I described when I reviewed the Akuma art, this looks like a mock-up for an advertisement readers would find in an old comic book, right down to the brand/company logos being seen in the bottom of the canvas.
Secondly, the background; I love it. The shredded appearace of it goes well with Wolverine unleashing his claws towards the camera, and the monocolor visage of all the other playable characters in Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 breathes a lot of life into the whole thing.
Lastly, both Wolverine himself and Ryu look fucking amazing! Ryu being shown in the reflection of Wolverine's claws is such a cool way to visualize their duel, and their respective poses are awesome to look at!
I know this is just a small request but please make more art like this! I'd stare and admire it all day.
i love you
This is a fantastic illustration to admire while I patiently wait for the release of Sonic X Shadow Generations and the Sonic 3 movie.
The shading and lighting here is *mad* impressive, particularly on Shadow's gun and clothes.
The iPod is also some stellar attention to detail. As far as I remember, iPods existed in the early 2000s and that's the time when Shadow first debuted as a character in the Sonic series. It also helps suggest that this art piece takes place sometimes in the early 2000s, which is pretty cool!
I can imagine Shadow having tunes like "I Am (All Of Me)," "This Machine," "Westopolis" and "All Hail Shadow" playing on blast.
"The Vivians are multiplying."
I adore thd game-accurate Vivians on the right side of the canvas; they're cute and whimsy, especially the bottom-right one holding a trans pride flag.
I won't lie, I don't have much to say on the stylized Vivian in the center of the frame. I've seen a lot of Vivian art with an identical appearance to that stylized version, but then again, Vivian's design is quite simple so there's not a whole lot the average artist could really do with it.
thank you namu this took so long to draw for no reason lol 🙏
I wasn't around to experience old DeviantArt beyond the cavalcade of cringe compilation videos made by Solar Sands, JelloApocalypse, DeviantCringe and Pkrussl back in the day; but I could tell that the site had a special place in people's hearts.
You manage to capture that feeling exceptionally well here; a perfect recreation of DeviantArt's past grandeur with this 3D model of its skrunkly mascot and the background that surrounds him.
This piece also had me paying attention to DeviantArt's original logo; noticing the stylized lowercase "da" harkons back to a time when companies and brands didn't minimalize their logos and made them uniquely expressive. It further emphasizes the pain of what DeviantArt has become in recent years; "zombie website" best describes the current state its in.
I can't help but get Jojo's Bizarre Adventure vibes from this design - might be an intentional motif, but I'm not certain on that. I will say tho, I'm likin' the presentation, as cluttered as it is. All three poses for Degeneratesin are pretty good and showcase your ability to switch from a cartoonish artstyle, to something that's photorealistic to an extent.
Additionally, I'm noticing this as I'm writing rn, but the black-and-neon magenta checker pattern on Degeneratesin's undershirt reminds me of the missing texture thing that can occur in Gmod or Source Film Maker. But for such a name as "Degeneratesin," it's funnily ironic how the chest of this version is rather small compared to the legs. If that's also intentional, I like it; serves as a neat juxtaposition to what the average viewer would expect from an artpiece titled "female degeneratesin."
And now that I'm looking more closely, the hair goes hard, tbh. The way it blends into her head reminds me of how Jotaro's hair seemingly blends into his signature hat. Her color scheme's also great, imo. Plus, the orange tie's a perfect contrast to her purplish-blue skin, and her little grin on the right side of the canvas is cool as well.
(Gah, this review's looking quite scatterbrained rn, but I'm sure you can tell that I really enjoy this art.)
You explained it in the best way possible and yeah I based the design off of Kira from jojo
